Celestial strikes Canadian licensing deal

(Screen Daily, March 12^th,2009) Hong Kong-based Celestial Pictures has signed a licensing deal with Canada's Rogers Cable Communications under which select titles from its Shaw Brothers library will be available on Rogers' On Demand digital cable platform.

Initially, over 20 titles of different genres – kung-fu, thriller, action and musical – will be offered to Rogers' customers in Ontario. The line-up includes classics such as The Kingdom And The Beauty, The 14 Amazons, The Duel and The Hong Kong Nocturne.

The titles will be refreshed on a regular basis and customer charges will start at $1.99 per film.

"To address the constant enquiries from Canadians for Shaw Brothers films, we are delighted to bring these celebrated Chinese classics to Canadian audiences via Rogers, and expand our reach in North America," said Terry Mak, executive vice president, Distribution & TV Networks at Celestial Pictures.
